Over three evenings, "Collecting art - between artist, market and provenance" deals with the art market, the building of a collection and, in particular, sheds light on the handling of Nazi-looted and refugee art and addresses the debate on the restitution of objects from the colonial era.

On this evening, we will take a big step back into the past and travel back to the time when the German Reich had its colonies in Africa. Artifacts from this period can still be found in German museums today. Not least with the opening of the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, the Benin bronzes in particular have returned to our collective memory. On closer inspection, we realize that the debate about the restitution of such artefacts began several decades ago in Germany. We discuss the past and also look to the present and the future and ask for "fair and just" solutions.
