Professor Wolffsohn was born in Tel Aviv in 1947. The son of a Jewish merchant family who fled to Palestine, he moved to West Berlin with his parents in 1954. He is one of the leading experts on the analysis of international politics and relations between Germans and Jews on a national, political, economic and religious level. As a historian and publicist, he regularly speaks out on important (military) political, historical and religious issues. He has made a name for himself with precise analyses and clear statements on topics such as the future of the Bundeswehr, Middle East and other world conflicts, German-Israeli relations and the history and present of Judaism.
