The last, legendary work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) was his "Requiem in D minor", which he was unable to complete before his death. To this day, it is perhaps the most popular setting of the Latin Mass for the Dead. The Bergson Phil' and the Bergson Voices are coming together for the first time for this masterpiece. They will perform the Requiem in an arrangement by the Bavarian civil servant Heinrich Ludwig Ritter von Spengel (1775 - 1865), which condenses the orchestral part.
The "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber (1910 - 1981) was voted the "saddest classical piece" by BBC listeners in 2004. In fact, it is often played at the funerals of prominent figures such as John F. Kennedy, Princess Gracia Patricia and Albert Einstein and has even become part of pop culture. Similarly well-known are "Åse's Death" from the "Peer Gynt Suite" by Edvard Grieg (1843 - 1907) and "Nimrod" from the "Enigma Variations" by Edward Elgar (1857 - 1934) - perhaps not the titles, but the music of both pieces became world-famous. So much so that composers felt inspired to make arrangements for a cappella choir and set the melancholy, sometimes dramatic melodies with the texts "Requiem Aeternam" ("Lord, give them eternal rest") and "Lux Aeternam" ("Lord, give them eternal rest") respectively. "Lux Aeternam" ("and may the eternal light shine upon them").
An intimate, contemplative program full of beauty of sound and depth as the ideal accompaniment to All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
