Giacomo Puccini has gone down in history for his operatic masterpieces: Tosca, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly etc. But with the Messa di Gloria, he also created one of the most popular settings of the Latin Mass. It is an early stroke of genius; Puccini was only 21 years old when it was premiered. He later used some motifs from the mass in his operas, for example in Manon Lescaut. This already indicates the character of the music: fresh, lively, thoroughly dramatic and full of wonderful melodies.
Sacred music was practically in Puccini's blood. His great-great-grandfather was already an organist, his father even the cathedral organist at Lucca Cathedral. With the Salve Regina, you can experience another work from this creative field alongside the famous Messa in an arrangement for wind ensemble. Romantic songs in a choral arrangement also show another facet of Puccini's oeuvre.
