Two notes at the beginning - a fifth apart, like heaven and earth. In between: nothingness. No major, no minor, no hint of an emotion. Only tentatively does something stir - as if nature is awakening. A rhythm emerges, like a heartbeat between the notes. New sounds are added, rhythms circle around each other, shift, merge, quietly disintegrate. And suddenly you yourself are part of this movement, driving the piece as you listen. Kai Schumacher speaks of the "physicality" of his music - it follows the natural motor skills of the hands. Techno? Trance? Classical? Concert? Devotional? There is no either-or.

Kai Schumacher has been releasing albums of contemporary American piano music since 2009 - including works by Frederic Rzewski, John Cage, George Crumb and Steve Reich. With "Rausch" (2019), he presented his own compositions for the first time, preparing his piano in analog form and playing with unfamiliar sounds and perceptions. He continues this game on his current album "Tranceformer" (2023) - the music remains in constant flux and takes on a different form in every ear.
