Josefine Opsahl at Bergson: Cello Meets Electronics
Josefine Opsahl, a remarkable Danish artist who transcends boundaries, combines music, art, performance, spatial concepts, and electronics in her work.
With a liberating openness toward sounds, genres, the use of electronics, and her primary instrument, the cello, she develops her works at the intersection of tradition and innovation, expertise and intuition, notation and improvisation. She draws upon her classical music training and historical knowledge, as well as her artistic and self-awareness, in this process.
It is atmospheric, hip music that transports the audience to vibrant Nordic realms. Josefine performs equally as a soloist with orchestras or—as in her concert at Bergson—with her electronic setup. She has received numerous prizes and awards for her art, most recently the prestigious Danish talent award, The Crown Prince Couple’s Cultural Stardust Award, with the citation that “Josefine, like few others of her generation, has succeeded in finding and further developing her own unique and contemporary forms of artistic expression.”
We had the pleasure of welcoming Josefine to the Bergson for the first time in 2025 and were absolutely thrilled. So: Welcome back, Josefine Opsahl!
