Clarinets in focus! This creates completely new sound impressions, including of the great masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), the Goldberg Variations. Normally a musical Mount Everest for pianists, here you will experience an arrangement by Michael Andrew Seaton for clarinet ensemble. According to an anecdote, Bach composed it for an aristocrat who had trouble sleeping and always lay awake at night. In order to get into a better mood, he had it played for him. He wanted something cheerful and gentle from Bach. Bach hoped to achieve the greatest effect through many variations that always offered something new and unexpected, in short: variety. This is how the "Gemüths-Ergetzung" still occurs today - especially when it shines in the tonal colorfulness of four clarinets.
Henry Purcell (1659-1695) was only slightly older than Bach and one of the greatest English Baroque composers. In his time, a "Fantasia" was the maximum expression of the innermost, a great, highly emotional display of the deepest feelings. The Fantazia in D minor Z 739 and the Chacony in G minor Z 730 allow you to experience the intensity of this music before the suite "The Old Bachelor" Z 607 - originally theater music from a comedy - combines humor, elegance and baroque dance.
