Assisted suicide touches on profound ethical, legal and medical issues that affect both individual rights to self-determination and social values and norms. In view of an ageing population, this topic is becoming increasingly important. Our discussion will focus on the different perspectives that illuminate the tension between autonomy and care.
Prof. Dr. Claudia Bausewein will report from her extensive experience in palliative care and shed light on how palliative approaches can alleviate patients' suffering. Stephan Pilsinger will outline the health policy implications and the current legal situation in Germany, while Prof. Dr. Kerstin Schlögl-Flierl will address the fundamental ethical questions and moral dilemmas arising from the practice of assisted suicide.
This event offers a unique opportunity to gain well-founded insights into a highly topical and sensitive subject and to discuss the importance of dignity, autonomy and responsibility at the end of life. We cordially invite you to take part in this important dialog and explore ways towards a humane and ethically justifiable practice together with our experts.
