With "Stories of Life," triosence tells stories from real life
triosence was founded in 1999 by pianist and composer Bernhard Schüler and currently features Omar Rodriguez Calvo on bass and Tobias Schulte on drums. Musically and in name, triosence—derived from “trio-essence”—refers to the concept of equal prominence among the instruments. Over the years, the trio has developed a fresh, distinctive style drawing on elements of jazz, fusion, folk, and world music, and has brought modern European jazz to the attention of audiences worldwide. Through its strong focus on melody and the essence of the song, triosence succeeds in captivating a broad audience beyond the boundaries of the jazz scene. triosence has performed around the globe—with tours and concerts in Germany, the U.S., China, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, France, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, Turkey, Lebanon, Romania, Albania, and many other countries. The new album “Stories of Life” is a musical portrait of snapshots from life. In each track, bandleader and composer Bernhard Schüler explores the tragedy and beauty of everyday stories and paints these experiences into enchantingly melodic, rousing instrumental compositions. Great joy and deep pain, the seemingly mundane and the truly life-changing are often surprisingly close together.
“We’re creating a total crossover,” explains Bernhard Schüler, “this is music that, while presented in a classic jazz lineup—with piano, bass, and drums—can no longer be called jazz in the traditional sense. For me, it’s all about strong melodies and clear song structures. Focusing on the essentials is important to me—or, to put it another way: getting to the heart of the matter musically.”
