The soul is what defines a person - their innermost, most honest, their essence. The deeper, the better. German soul singer and uber-guitarist Torsten Goods is now flowing into our ears with his new album "Soul Deep". The twelve tracks, either written by himself or with his British soul brother Bluey Maunick from Incognito, present the 44-year-old as a mature artist, influenced by soul, but also jazz, blues and the summery sounds of the late 70s in California. As virtuoso as this music may be, as fully produced as it is, the sounds of the voice(s) and instruments touch the soul of the listener.

The new album tells the personal stories of Torsten Goods, who according to the SZ is "as gifted on the guitar as he is as a singer". It is also about his visual transformation due to alopecia, the shock-like and permanent hair loss, and above all, the love for his soulmate. "Soul Deep" is therefore also thematically a consequence of "Soul Searching": a very personal album in which Goods writes down stories from his life and his relationship with his wife, such as the yearning ballad "Summertime Heartache", complete with strings and saxophone by Jakob Manz, the Steely Dan tribute "Summer Rain", the beautiful "Live by the Heart", sung as a duet with the wonderful Kim Sanders or, of course, the dance-friendly "Rocket Girl".

Jan Miserre on keyboards and piano, Felix Lehrmann on drums and Björn Werra on bass - the band behind the new album - are absolute experts and have been playing together perfectly in this line-up for sixteen years. This makes every concert a unique experience, a feast full of deeply felt, virtuosically played, acoustic bliss. "Smooth vocals, fast guitars and feel good grooves" are the soul of this musical experience.
