On the Desire for Change — A Plea for Courage in Times of Crisis
We welcome author Tobias Haberl to the book presentation and discussion, “Courage: A Wake-Up Call in Anxious Times,” at Bergson.
When you return from a trip to Germany, you feel it particularly strongly: Our country seems fearful, despondent, paralyzed. Nothing is buzzing with energy. Everyone is just playing it by ear, managing the status quo, shifting responsibility—mostly onto some statistics or other. Those in power are primarily people with a mild-mannered disposition—they don’t rock the boat, but they also don’t dare to do anything great. How did it come to this? Why have we forgotten how to be courageous? And how can we, as a society, become vibrant and resilient again? Courage means facing the truth. It means doing what you believe is right, despite headwinds. It means setting out—as individuals and as a society—on a path where you don’t know if it will lead to your destination, but you feel that it is the right one.
