Stephanie Lottermoser is known for her jazz with a strong groove. Her music combines melodic depth with rhythmic power—direct, accessible, and full of energy. Her saxophone tells a story with a warm, powerful tone, while her voice adds subtle accents. The award-winning saxophonist and singer is in high demand both nationally and internationally. In 2026, she performed for the first time at the Addis Jazz Festival alongside Ethiopian pianist Samuel Yirga and Swedish-Ethiopian drummer Markus Isberg. Her trip to Ethiopia and the musical encounters she had there inspired her new suite, “UBUNTU – Balance of Souls,” which will be presented live for the first time at the Bergson!
Ubuntu refers to a philosophical concept from Southern Africa: We do not exist independently of one another, but are connected through our relationships and shared experiences. Lottermoser’s suite explores this interconnectedness from various perspectives—between the inner world and external encounters, closeness, and the pursuit of balance.
Together with Samuel Yirga, who blends Ethiopian musical traditions with jazz and contemporary influences, drummer Markus Isberg, and bassist Loreen Sima, a musical dialogue emerges that will sweep you away. A second highlight is Lottermoser’s new album, “LIVE at the Bauer Studios.” The evening thus brings together two chapters: the live premiere of an internationally inspired new suite and the music from an album that emerged entirely from the shared moment.
