Ledisi live at Bergson Munich: Grammy winner with a tribute to Dinah Washington, “For Dinah”

Grammy winner Ledisi has been delighting her fans with her incomparable voice for over twenty years. Her latest album pays tribute to one of her greatest role models: Dinah Washington. On "For Dinah", Ledisi pays tribute to her musical heroine - a soulful homage to the legendary "Queen of the Blues", whose iconic "What A Difference A Day Made" immediately catches your ear. "She gave me the freedom to move freely, to create freely, to be a woman in a leadership role, to wear and say what I want," Ledisi explains.

Born in New Orleans and influenced by the Bay Area, Ledisi has emerged as one of the leading voices in contemporary R&B. She is a Grammy winner, has already received a total of 14 nominations and has been widely recognized for embodying her musical idols on stage, on record and on screen - alongside Mahalia Jackson and Nina Simone now Dinah Washington.

Ledisi describes her connection to Dinah Washington's music as deeply personal; it offers her a space to fully embrace and express her femininity. Ultimately, "For Dinah" is Ledisi's tribute to representation and resilience. She recognizes herself in Washington's struggle for acceptance in a male-dominated industry, as a dark-skinned woman facing similar challenges. "I felt their pain, their rejection," says Ledisi. "That's my heritage - and that's my way of saying her name out loud."
