The four young musicians of the Maxjoseph ensemble from Munich create their own modern interpretation of Alpine folk music. They loosen up traditional structures to create space for new forms and unusual ideas.
With an unusual line-up - tuba, guitar, violin and Styrian harmonica - they discover new timbres and create compositions that combine folk music elements with jazz harmonies, enrich classical music with pulsating rhythms and unite familiar sounds with new influences.
The musicians have come up with something special for their Christmas program "Auszeit": In addition to the music, there will also be passages from Ludwig Thoma's "Holy Night". Georg Unterholzner Sr. reads the verses in accent-free Bavarian and with great feeling. Thoma succeeds in capturing the events of the Holy Night in powerful, apt words without drifting into kitsch. A timeless and yet contemporary text. Just like the music by Maxjoseph.
Georg Unterholzner: Guitar
Andreas Winkler: Styrian harmonica
Nathanael Turban: violin
Florian Mayrhofer: tuba
Georg Unterholzner sen.: Speaker
