Judith Hill: „Letters From A Black Widow“ at Bergson
Singer-songwriter Judith Hill began her career as a backup singer for stars such as Michael Jackson and Josh Groban. She won a Grammy for her musical performance in “20 Feet From Stardom,” a 2013 documentary that follows Hill and other backup singers. After expressing her desire to work with Prince in a television interview, the artist invited her to his studio. This encounter led to both a romantic relationship and a musical collaboration. In 2015, Prince produced Hill’s debut album, “Back In Time,” a rousing, funky album. But after Prince’s death in 2016, Hill was labeled the “Black Widow” by tabloids and internet trolls. The trauma she suffered as a result nearly ended her career, but she pulled herself together and decided to channel her experiences into music. The result is the impressive album “Letters From A Black Widow”: raw and vulnerable, yet also powerful, orchestral, and captivating.
