Hermeto’s Mothership Celebrates the Musical Legacy of Hermeto Pascoal

Hermeto Pascoal was one of Brazil’s best-known musicians. The composer and multi-instrumentalist, who died in 2025, achieved international fame in part through his collaborations with jazz legends such as Miles Davis. He earned the nickname “The Magician” thanks to his white bushy beard and his passion and ability to improvise with anything. The ensemble Hermeto’s Mothership now brings together the musicians who accompanied Pascoal on stage for decades. With a repertoire consisting entirely of Hermeto Pascoal’s works, they are returning to stages around the world for the first time since Pascoal’s death, bringing the maestro’s wonderful music back to life. In this concert, the band will present pieces from various phases of his career—classics, rarities, and more recent works. The setlist is curated anew for each performance to celebrate the work of this highly prolific musician as comprehensively as possible. Over the course of his career, Hermeto Pascoal released more than 35 albums and composed over 10,000 pieces.

The current lineup of the “Mutterschiff” includes bassist Itiberê Zwarg, who has been with the group since 1977 and has played a key role in shaping its rhythmic and harmonic architecture ever since; Fábio Pascoal (percussion), a member since the late 1980s and recording director for Hermeto’s albums since 1999; André Marques, a pianist and arranger with extensive international experience, a band member since 1994, and musical director of the Latin Grammy-winning big band project; Ajurinã Zwarg, drummer, composer, and educator, who has previously participated in school orchestras and stage projects associated with Hermeto; and Jota P. on saxophone and flutes, an outstanding soloist on tours and recordings.

“Hermeto’s Mothership” is both a tribute and a continuation: the musicians who have traveled the world with Hermeto keep alive—with historical authority and a style all their own—the way the “Campeão” conceived and presented his music.
