Exhibition Opening: SUPERMARK€T and Hubertus Hamm

On September 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., the Bergson Gallery will open two major new art exhibitions in its new building, as well as an outdoor sculpture park. The group exhibition SUPERMARK€T – Art. Power. Capital. explores how free art can still be today, while the solo exhibition and the sculpture by Hubertus Hamm focus on how our perception is shaped by perspectives, contexts, and points of view. An artist talk offering fascinating insights into the artistic concepts, along with live music, will round out the opening night. Admission is free. All exhibited works are available for purchase.

The group exhibition SUPERMARK€T – Art. Power. Capital. explores how autonomous art can be in an era shaped by visibility, social media, and economic mechanisms. Young artists born in the 1990s and 2000s explore themes such as consumption, attention, social norms, and the rules of the art market. The often surprising works of the younger generation are juxtaposed with established artistic positions, such as those of Alexandra Bircken, Ayzit Bostan, and Peter Kogler. As internationally renowned artists and professors, they have been shaping the next generation of artists for years while simultaneously broadening the perspective on the exhibition’s central theme. The exhibition stages the art space as a sales floor, a warehouse, and a stage for self-promotion, transforming it into a hybrid between a gallery and a consumer landscape.

In parallel, the Bergson Gallery is presenting works by photographer and media artist Hubertus Hamm. The focus is on the minimalist-looking installation VI|EW, developed specifically for the Bergson, whose vertical sculptural elements in front of the Bergson play with perception, perspective, and social dialogue. Depending on the viewer’s angle or vantage point, the surfaces—which initially appear opaque and black—become surprisingly transparent, highlighting just how much our perception depends on our own perspective.

In addition, further works by Hubertus Hamm are on view on Level 3 under the title “Part 1: Roots | Photography.” The artist began experimenting with the possibilities of photography at an early age and challenging its conventions. By layering different elements and tearing, folding, and bending the photographic material, he transforms his photographs into three-dimensional objects. In doing so, he works with various materials such as metal, glass, and ceramics.
