Eva Umlauf at the Bergson – What Memory Means Today

Awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust is fading: in public life, in education, and in our understanding of values. At the same time, there are more and more violent anti-Semitic attacks. Eva Umlauf, an Auschwitz survivor and one of the last eyewitnesses, is outraged by this: because politicians are doing too little to combat it. And because society tolerates this hatred. Her urgent appeal clearly articulates, on the one hand, why we must act quickly if we do not want to give authoritarian forces even more room to maneuver. On the other hand, it conveys the confidence that “Never again!” will truly hold true and that Jewish life in Germany will once again be possible without fear in the future.
