The MAI.trio, a young ensemble that sees chamber music as a lively dialog between times, styles and personalities, can be experienced at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk. Founded in 2023, an initially friendly relationship between three musicians quickly developed into an ambitious piano trio with a clear artistic approach. Today, the ensemble is based at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, where it is led by Prof. Silke Avenhaus and Prof. Wen-Sinn Yang.
Their program spans a wide range: from contemporary sound poetry to a rediscoverable composer of the Belle Époque to one of the great classics of Romantic chamber music. Kelly-Marie Murphy's Give Me Phoenix Wings to Fly opens the evening with music of new beginnings - powerful, pictorial, full of inner movement. A work that seems to be made for young musicians who think ahead and are deeply rooted in sound at the same time.
Soir et Matin op. 76 by Mel Bonis is a rare guest in the concert hall: finely drawn moods between evening and morning, elegance and quiet melancholy. Bonis' music tells the story of a composer who was long overlooked - and is all the more haunting today.
Franz Schubert's Piano Trio No. 1 in B flat major, op. 99 D 898, is the center and focus of the evening: a work of great expansiveness, inner peace and dance-like energy. From the serene movement of the first movement through the wide-breathing Andante to the springy Scherzo and the lively Rondo, a musical cosmos unfolds that creates closeness and allows depth.
