The Balthasar Neumann Orchestra at Bergson: Bach's Brandenburg Concertos

Following last year’s NEUROPE Festival, the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra returns to the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk, this time with the Brandenburg Concertos. With these works, Johann Sebastian Bach created some of the most brilliant and colorful pieces in the history of music.

Whether it’s hunting horns, conversing recorders, or the legendarily demanding trumpet part in the Second Brandenburg Concerto: Bach transforms every instrument into a soloist and creates a fascinating musical interplay. This makes them a perfect fit for the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra. For this ensemble is not only internationally renowned for its mastery of “historical performance practice”—which includes, among other things, playing on valuable period instruments that produce a very special sound. But because the orchestra is composed of top musicians from all over Europe, it consists of magnificent virtuosos who bring their musical individuality together as a collective.

In this concert, you’ll hear Concertos Nos. 1, 2, and 4.

Concertos Nos. 3, 5, and 6 will be performed on the same day at 7 pm.
