BR Club Concert at Bergson: Petros Klampanis – Latent Info
“Petros Klampanis is a musician who has always spoken from the heart.” When a journalist from the American music magazine DownBeat attests that the double bassist’s music always comes from the heart and that he speaks from the heart, this is by no means a cheesy, saccharine phrase straight out of a poetry album. And anyone who meets the Greek musician in person and hears him talk about music will surely confirm it: Music is not just close to his heart—for him, it is a matter of the heart through and through.
The unspoken and the unspeakable—finding words for them is a fundamental human need. But as much as the struggle to find the supposedly “right” words can be fun, this passionate effort repeatedly reaches its limits. And that’s a good thing. “Latent Info,” Klampani’s current project with Estonian pianist Kristjan Randalu and Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz, now demonstrates that instrumental music is indeed capable of storytelling. It tells its story as the “latent information” within a piece—just as real, yet as intangible as unspoken thoughts, unachieved goals, or flowers growing through the asphalt: unseen and largely ignored. Throughout the performance, the musical duets and trios of the three musicians reveal the beauty and power that lie in all the unnoticed things. Look forward to exciting rhythms and sparkling piano sounds.
A collaboration with BR-Klassik.
