Bühne frei im Studio 2 is a legendary series in which the finest jazz is presented once a month - and has been for almost 60 years! In the meantime, the cult format of Bayerischer Rundfunk has found a new home under a new name in the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk. More precisely, in our cozy live club, the Barbastelle. Welcome to the BR club concert!
This time the focus is on clarinettist, bass clarinettist and composer Rebecca Trescher and her quartet. As a composer, Rebecca Trescher has mastered a great art: she understands musical condensation and yet always maintains transparency. It doesn't matter how many musicians she has at her disposal - the Tübingen-born composer manages to make each of her ensembles sound like far more people than stated. As a musician and part of her quartet, Rebecca Trescher always has the entirety of the music in mind, while at the same time being right in the middle of the action as a soloist on clarinet and bass clarinet. Her playing skills have earned the multiple award-winning musician the title of "Rising Star" in 2022, awarded by the international jurors of the American magazine "Down Beat". Ten years before this honor, when she was still studying clarinet in the jazz department of the Nuremberg University of Music and before she went to Munich to study composition, she released her first CD as a bandleader. Rebecca Trescher now has eight albums in her portfolio. Five of them with her large ensembles, currently with nine musicians, and four more with her quartets.
Through her skillful play with textures, voice leading and role distribution, she also develops a sound of almost orchestral quality on her current album "Changing Perspectives". The musician, who is based in Nuremberg and Berlin, succeeds in doing this because she follows her ideas and impulses and translates impressions, observations, inspirations, small emotions and big feelings into music that inspires her audience's imagination, beyond any rules, principles or conventional formal language. A recording of the concert will be broadcast by BR-KLASSIK on Friday, 13.03.2026, in Jazztime. The concert will be available in the ARD Mediathek afterwards.
A cooperation with BR-Klassik.
