Terri Lyne Carrington & Katharina Pfeifer live at Bergson: BR Clubkonzert

The US drummer, composer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington is an outstanding star of the international jazz scene and, as of this year, also holds a top professorship at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (HMTM). She will be teaching students at the Jazz Institute there on a project basis until 2028, with a particular focus on promoting gender equality in jazz. She brings the experience for this from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she has headed the Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice together with pianist Kris Davis since 2015. Terri Lyne Carrington describes her own career as an exception to the rule, as her talent was proactively supported by her father and grandfather, who were both jazz musicians. She performed for the first time at the age of 10 as a guest of trumpeter Clark Terry and played with stars such as Stan Getz, James Moody and Wayne Shorter from a young age. The much-booked player soon became bandleader and producer Terri Lyne Carrington. She has released sixteen albums of her own, on which she has primarily dealt with socially critical themes in recent years. Four of these have been awarded a Grammy.

Fifty years of stage experience and a career in full swing: the best prerequisites for providing her students in Munich with crucial knowledge for their professional careers. Tenor saxophonist Katharina Pfeifer is one of them and has already attracted attention as the winner of the Kurt Maas Award in 2025. She uses her big sound in an incredibly multifaceted way - from the finest, touching pianissimo with glowing overtones to expressive power play. It thus becomes a gripping, sonorous narrative voice when shaping melodies and improvisations. With her project band, Katharina Pfeifer will interpret pieces by female jazz composers. They come from the collection "New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers" by Terri Lyne Carrington, who will be present as a special guest.

A recording of the concert will be broadcast by BR-KLASSIK on Friday, 9.10.2026, in "Jazztime". The concert will be available in the ARD Mediathek afterwards.

A cooperation with BR-Klassik.
