Samuel Wootton is a percussionist, composer and producer - a sound collector with insatiable curiosity. His musical DNA is fed by jazz, world music and beat-driven soundscapes, but he is really driven by an uncompromising desire to experiment and transform sound into emotion. He draws inspiration from the Dadaist audacity of Tom Zé as well as the poetic directness of Kae Tempest or the raw soundscapes of Tom Waits. His own music combines depth and subtle humor, colourful instrumentation and narrative power. It spans an arc between pulsating rhythms and intimate melodies, between spontaneous energy and careful composition. In 2024, he released his debut album "Allsorts", a multi-layered collection of idiosyncratic sound ideas under his own name.
Live, Wootton takes this music into new spaces with the exquisite formation "Samuel Wootton's Allsorts". The stage becomes an open playing surface for improvisation, an interface between composed structure, free expression, spoken word and concentrated energy. The concert at Bergson Kunstkraftwerk will also be enhanced live by Umberto Echo in Surround - an immersive experience that allows the sound to breathe.
