Christmas: From Christmas Trees to Mulled Wine and Old Traditions
Christmas has been around for more than 5,000 years! What? Well, not Christmas as the celebration of the birth of the Baby Jesus, of course. Because, as we all know, that event in the stable in Bethlehem took place “only” 2,000 years ago. But the customs and festivities surrounding Christmas are much older. Why do we actually celebrate the holiday on December 24? Where does the Christmas tree come from? To what extent is the Virgin Mary, who gave birth to the Savior of the world, actually an invention from Ancient Egypt? And what role has alcohol always played in all of this, quite apart from the notorious mulled wine stand? Maximilian Maier provides answers to these and many other questions about the most wonderful time of the year with funny, witty, and thought-provoking stories.
Our Bergson Artists will accompany the program with Christmas hits from around the world in specially crafted arrangements. The set list includes classics like “Jul jul,” “Leise rieselt der Schnee,” and “Adeste fideles,” as well as pieces less familiar in our part of the world, such as “Sidrabiņa lietiņš lija.” A program that not only entertains you thoroughly but also provides you with stories for the Christmas holidays to liven up every family celebration with a touch of humor.
